If you have braces, chances are that you’ve run into a couple of issues along the way. Most are not orthodontic emergencies, and you can apply home remedies to solve the problem until you can get in for an office visit.
Sore teeth and mouth
It is common when you first get your braces or as your teeth begin to shift during treatment that you will feel some aches. These usually pass relatively quickly, but you can try eating soft foods and taking an over-the-counter non-aspirin pain reliever if necessary.
Loose or broken brackets
This can be caused by playing with your braces or eating hard or sticky foods. Avoiding those during your life with braces will help you avoid this problem. But if a bracket does come loose, you can cover it with orthodontic wax to avoid discomfort. You should schedule an appointment to get the bracket fixed.
Wire irritation
If a wire is poking you, you can use a pencil eraser to gently push the wire into a more comfortable position. You can also cover the tip of the wire with orthodontic wax.
