How Does Invisalign Work?

Basically, Invisalign works the same way as any brackets-and-wiring arrangement, except that it uses clear aligners instead. Dr. Rudman will answer your questions about this and let you know if it is a good option for you. Not everybody can successfully realign their teeth using Invisalign, as it depends on the exact misalignment and its severity.

Dr. Rudman would examine your entire dental health, test your bite, photograph and measure your teeth and jaw, and compile all the data necessary for the Invisalign company to custom-make your series of aligners.

The company will make your entire set at once, based on Dr. Rudman's treatment plan. When they arrive, you will have an appointment to get started. For the first two weeks you will wear the first pair. At first there is a feeling of pressure as the aligner fits over your teeth snugly and exerts some gentle pressure against the teeth that are targeted first in your treatment plan.

At the end of the second week, you discard the first pair and begin wearing the second pair. Now the pressure may feel a little different, as this pair may exert pressure differently. After the third pair has been worn for two weeks there will be another appointment for Dr. Rudman to check on your progress and give you the next few pairs.

Options and Requirements
You can remove the aligners at any time. Remove them for eating and for brushing and flossing your teeth. If you have a special occasion - very special, like getting married or going for an important job interview - you can remove them.

However, your successful outcome depends on your wearing them for at least 20-22 hours each day. The varying pressures of your treatment plan need to be evenly implemented so each successive pair of aligners can accurately pick up where the previous pair left off.

Dr. Rudman is a certified provider of Invisalign tooth straightening and will be happy to answer your questions. Please contact Advanced Orthodontic Care today to arrange for your personal consultation.

Benefits of Dental Braces

Most people are aware of the perceived disadvantages of dental braces – metal mouth and discomfort. But are you aware of all the benefits that accrue from a year or two spent wearing them? It is quite a long list, and keep in mind that in these days of modern dentistry there are many more choices as to what type of braces you wear. There is even the Invisalign choice of correcting tooth alignment without using braces at all.

If you bite the bullet, so to speak, and wear braces for a short percentage of your life, you can achieve positive results and avoid potential problems.

1. Positives to Achieve
  • A more attractive and healthy smile
  • Elimination of pain caused by a misaligned bite
  • Reduced strain on the jaw joints and their muscles, which will avoid future dental problems
  • Better ability to keep your teeth clean
  • Better lip closure, which would enhance your entire facial appearance
  • Easier swallowing
  • Improved speech
  • More pleasure from eating, without the upper and lower teeth bumping or chronic strain in the jaw joints
  • Enhanced dental health for the rest of your life
  • Greater self-confidence about your physical appearance
  • Improved facial development with well-aligned teeth if you are a teenager

2. Negatives to Avoid
  • Lost teeth from premature wear and tear or gum disease
  • Premature facial aging because of lost teeth and resulting bone shrinkage
  • Injury to front teeth if they protrude
  • Embarrassment from ugly teeth if you are a teenager
  • Jaw surgery such as a bone graft
  • A lifetime of dental discomfort and self-consciousness

Everyone is different in their dental health and particular tooth and gum conditions. Dr. Rudman is a highly-qualified orthodontist and can offer you the most up-to-date options for correcting tooth alignment. To arrange a personal consultation, please call or email our orthodontics office today.
